JPEG to JPG

JPEG and JPG are the same format. A .jpeg, .jpe or .jfif of JPEG data keeps the same bytes under a .jpg name. PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC are converted to JPG. Nothing is uploaded.

How to convert JPEG to JPG

  1. Add your JPEG, JPG, JFIF, PNG, WebP, AVIF or HEIC images: drop them on the box above, or choose them from your device. You can add up to 20 at once.
  2. Your browser keeps JPEG data as the same bytes under a .jpg name, and converts other pictures to JPG. Nothing is uploaded.
  3. Download each JPG, or download them all together as a single zip.

What is a JPEG?

JPEG is the photograph format named for the Joint Photographic Experts Group. A file ending in .jpg, .jpeg, .jpe or .jfif is a JPEG when the bytes are JPEG data. It is lossy, which keeps files small. It has no transparency.

What is a JPG?

JPG is the same format as JPEG. This page does not re-encode a .jpeg, .jpe or .jfif of JPEG data: the download is those same bytes with a .jpg name, so the pixels and the file size stay the same. A PNG, WebP, AVIF or HEIC is converted to a new JPG at quality 92 out of 100, at the same pixel size, and transparent pixels are filled with white. A renamed JPEG keeps its metadata. A new JPG does not.

Questions

Is it private?

Yes. The converter is a page, not an upload: your browser opens each file, writes the JPG and saves it to your device. No file is sent to creavio or to anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. The HEIC decoder downloads once, the first time you add a HEIC photo.

Is the quality kept?

A .jpeg, .jpe or .jfif of JPEG data is the same bytes with a .jpg name. A PNG, WebP, AVIF or HEIC becomes a JPG at quality 92 out of 100. Transparent pixels are filled with white.

How many files can I convert at once?

Up to 20 at a time. Download them one by one, or all together as a single zip.

Is there a file size limit?

Each image can be up to 50 MB. A larger file shows a message and is not added.

Which browsers does it work in?

Current versions of Chrome and Safari. The HEIC decoder is part of the page, so your browser does not need to support HEIC itself.

HEIC decoding uses heic-to and libheif, free software licensed under the GNU LGPL 3.0. They are included unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when you add a HEIC photo. The source code is at the links above.
