How to use the tool
- Add a photo: drop a JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC or JFIF, or choose one from your device.
- Pick a size. Drag and zoom the crop box until the part you want sits inside it.
- Download a JPG (the default) or a PNG, drawn at the exact width and height you picked. Nothing is uploaded.
What the size means
Instagram's help page "Image resolution of photos you share on Instagram", read 21 October 2026, says Instagram uploads photos at the best quality resolution possible, up to a width of 1080 pixels, and to upload a photo at least 1080 pixels wide with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 3:4.
Instagram's page also gives the heights for that range: a width of 1080 pixels with a height between 566 and 1440 pixels. So the widest post is 1080 x 566 (1.91:1) and the tallest is 1080 x 1440 (3:4). The square preset, 1080 x 1080, is worked out from 1:1.
Questions
Is it private?
Yes. The crop runs in your browser. No file is sent to creavio or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. The HEIC decoder downloads once, the first time you add a HEIC photo.
Which formats can I use?
JPG, JPEG, JFIF, PNG, WebP, AVIF and HEIC. SVG files are not accepted. The page uses the same decoders as the converters, including the HEIC decoder.
Why does Instagram crop my photo?
A feed photo outside 1.91:1 to 3:4 at up to 1080 pixels wide is cropped by Instagram. Pick the matching preset here and move the crop box so the crop is yours.
How many files can I crop at once?
One photo at a time. Clear it to add another. A file that is too large is not added.
Which browsers does it work in?
Current versions of Chrome and Safari. It uses only features built into the browser, so there is nothing to install.
HEIC decoding uses heic-to and libheif, free software licensed under the GNU LGPL 3.0. They are included unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when you add a HEIC photo. The source code is at the links above.
