What the size means
Facebook's article "Facebook Page profile picture and cover photo dimensions", read 24 October 2026, says a Page cover loads fastest as an sRGB JPG, 851 pixels wide, 315 pixels tall and less than 100 kilobytes. It also says the cover shows at 16:9 on a computer and 2.4:1 on a phone. 851 x 315 works out to 2.70:1, which matches neither. Facebook does not explain this, so the page shows each number as stated and draws no safe area.
For a personal profile, Facebook says only that the cover image has to be at least 720 pixels wide. The 851 x 315 preset is the Page cover size, not a profile number.
Questions
Is it private?
Yes. The crop runs in your browser. No file is sent to creavio or anyone else, and nothing is stored after you close the tab. The HEIC decoder downloads once, the first time you add a HEIC photo.
Will the JPG be under 100 KB?
The JPG steps its quality down until it is under 100 KB, and the page shows the final size. For a logo or text, Facebook says a PNG may look better.
Which browsers does it work in?
Current versions of Chrome and Safari. It uses only features built into the browser, so there is nothing to install.
HEIC decoding uses heic-to and libheif, free software licensed under the GNU LGPL 3.0. They are included unmodified as a separate file, loaded only when you add a HEIC photo. The source code is at the links above.
